The Style Launch Reflection - Fall 2017

It's crazy that I'm just now writing about this moment, but it's never too late to share the story.

So the story starts, back in October 2017; I had just entered into my last year at Michigan State University and my second year working at H&M. This was a pivotal time in my life because I knew upon graduating,

I still needed to celebrate and share the brand I had started last summer, Select Styles by Starr. Most of my peers had been engaging with my blogs and signing up for the newsletters, but I wanted to offer a private gathering for my close friends who had been supportive from the start. Whether they encouraged me, gave advice or just wore their authentic selves around me, it all deserved to be highlighted.

1 Week Before Launch Day

When it comes to planning events or even just get togethers, I'm the kind of person who has the whole event planned out (in my mind), but then I ask everyone if they would come to something like this IF I were to plan it a few weeks out. So mostly everyone said yes, because time in college is set up different (most of us make sure we schedule in "look-good, feel-good" events.

A week before the launch, I sent everyone a sweet and short text with an image innovation to attend. I didn't give details on what we would be doing just because I didn't want to share this as a formal event, private yes, but formal un un.

Launch Day

Unlike most days when I'm getting ready for something big, I didn't really have pre-jitters. However, after everything was set in place and ready to begin..it was only a couple of my friends there…but then they ha to bring it to my attention that like any "black occasion" 90% of everyone shows up on CP time.

So boom, the little bit of stress i was about to feel had buried itself away.

So the party continued, but I slowly worked my way into it. We plaid a few fashion games I had created like Jeopardy and Personal Style Icebreakers and before I knew it more of my friends had slowly made their way in. Once majority of everyone was there, I went over some exclusive style features that I wanted to offer specifically to everyone who had attended. But the best part, my favorite, I saved for last, the Style Strut fashion show.

On the invitation I noted to come "Dressed to Impress," but I also made a note in my message to let everyone know that was a crucial element in showing up. My warm-hearted goal with this event was to not only share the purpose of Select Styles, but to highlight everyone's personal style to enlighten everyone on the epitome of always wearing the best version of yourself.

During and after the Style Strut we got tons of footage, then had drinks and hung around for a few and the night ended.. I was at peace, it was a great feeling to birth a vision and feel the genuine love surrounding it.

Maybe I'll plan another one..since Select Styles by Starr has recently upgraded, I might just upgrade the Style Re-Launch 🤔
